The trip really starts in Ísafjörður. We arrived, ate dinner at Logn, and slept for the night.

In September 2026, I traveled to Iceland and Greenland.
Below is a log of the trip, along with any photos worth showing.
Ísafjörður
Into the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve
The next morning we hopped on a boat and traveled through the Ísafjarðardjúp, around the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve.
During the trip we found some humpback whales.
Arctic Fox at Rekavík
We eventually landed on a beach in Hornvík, near Rekavík, and went looking for arctic fox.
We got ferried over to Rekavík on a zodiac, and a couple of us hiked back to the beach, where there was a fox we got to spend some time photographing.
The Doctor's House at Hesteyri
Later that day we went back around to the south side of the nature reserve and landed in Hesteyri, where there was an old house that used to be a doctor's house and is now run as a bed & breakfast.
A Seal Along the Shore
On the way to Stekkeyri, while we were hiking along the cliff above, we spotted a seal down in the water below, lying in very shallow water right along the shore.
Stekkeyri, an Abandoned Whaling Station
Then we hiked over to an abandoned whaling station, I believe it was called Stekkeyri. It was a ruin of what was, and is being reclaimed by nature.

A Sleeping Fox
While at the station we found a sleeping fox that decided we weren't a threat, so he just continued to lay there.
Leaving Hesteyri
Around noon we left the doctor's house — if you look at the little green house on the far right of the photo, that's where we slept.
A Glacier Along the Way
Passed a glacier.
Butterfly
Found some more whales, including one the crew recognized by its tail and calls Butterfly.
One More Tail
We spotted another whale tail too. This one wasn't recognized on the spot, so I've submitted it to Happy Whale to see if they can identify it.
Back to Ísafjörður
And finally landed back in Ísafjörður, where we ended the night with a sunset shoot.

Dynjandi
The main event of our last two days was Dynjandi, a series of waterfalls stacked on top of each other, each one different from the last.
Below is the full location from the bottom, the smaller falls I shot on the way up, the main falls at the top, and a detail shot in both color and black & white.
Last Morning in Iceland
We're staying at a hotel called the Lighthouse Inn tonight, and flying to Greenland tomorrow afternoon.
Tomorrow morning I plan to go out early, walk the beach, and look for water fowl. There are also a couple of lighthouses here, so I should have at least one more picture to post from Iceland — that will be the true end of Iceland.

First Night in Greenland
We stayed one night in Kulusuk, at a hotel looking out over the mountains.
That evening we got a sunset over the mountains, and later that night we shot an unexpected aurora — the forecast was low, but we got a pretty good night anyway.
Apusiaajik Glacier
Next up was the Apusiaajik Glacier. I flew my drone to get a look at it from above.
Into the Ice Cave
We hiked up over the glacier to an ice cave. Inside, there was a small waterfall, and I shot some detail of the air bubbles frozen inside the ice — this one looks like a dragon to me.
Tasiilaq
After hiking back down a bit, we stopped and ate smoked reindeer for lunch, right there on the glacier.
Then we took the boats over to Tasiilaq, which is where we'll be for the rest of the trip. This is the house and bay where I'm staying, iceberg included.
We also caught the aurora here, and I shot a timelapse of it.
